Pelham, NY - The Village of Pelham Fire Department has received a number of grants in the past few months to obtain modern equipment and promote fire safety. The total amount of funding received is $97,265 dollars, matched by funds provided by the Village of Pelham and money raised through fundraising. The village has also received an equipment grant to enhance fire safety for seniors. These grants, combined with the recent purchase of a brand new Aerial Ladder Truck (expected delivery November 2005) will usher the department into a modern era of firefighting and fire prevention.
The funding is part of the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program. Funding granted under this initiative will provide Firefighters with interoperable communications equipment, new Turnout Gear, new Self Contained Breathing Apparatus, and the installment of a Vehicle Exhaust Ventilation System at the Pelham Firehouse. The Village of Pelham greatly appreciates the support of Congresswoman Nita Lowey and Senators Charles Schumer and Hillary Clinton, whose unflagging efforts on behalf of New York communities have made this grant possible. This grant will greatly enhance the health and safety of our career and volunteer Firefighters.
The Pelham Fire Department received notice that it was selected to participate in the New York State Department of Health –Program for the Prevention of Fire Related Injuries. This program is funded by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Through this program local Firefighters, in cooperation with the Pelham Senior Citizens Club will distribute and install free smoke detectors to Pelham seniors.
The Pelham Fire Department was awarded this grant through the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation – Volunteer Fire Assistance Program for the purchase of portable radios.
This grant has been used to purchase a Thermal Imaging Camera, allowing Firefighters to locate fires in concealed spaces as well as search for victims trapped in burning buildings. The Village of Pelham greatly appreciates the efforts of Assemblywoman Amy Paulin and thanks her for her continued support of village projects and programs. This grant was matched with funds raised by the IAFF Local 2213.
