| New Smoke Detector Regulations Under NYS Law | |||

According to section R-317.1.1 of the New York State Uniform Code, an integrated, hard-wired smoke alarm system MUST be installed in any one- or two-family house in which any work requiring a building permit has been issued, same as new construction. THIS IS A REQUIREMENT OF THE STATE UNIFORM CODE An integrated hard-wired system is a smoke alarm system that is supplied electricity and sounds an alarm in every area of a house. Provisions can be found in section R-317.1 of the NYS Code. Anyone who has work done that requires a permit and fails to obtain a permit would be in violation of the state laws requiring building permits. A violation of this law carries penalties proscribed by law. | |||
