The
Village of Pelham held its annual inspection on
Friday, October 25, 2002, which began at 5:45
with a prayer at Fireman’s Park at the corner
of Wolfs Lane and First Street. Deputy Chief Ron
Giustino presented a bronze plaque that will be
installed in the park in memory of Lt. Joseph
Leavey, a New York City firefighter who gave his
life at the World Trade Center attack on September
11, 2001.
Following a reception at the firehouse, Fire Chief Robert
Glover Pelham, Mayor Arthur Scinta and State Senator
Guy Velella delivered remarks followed by the
formal inspection of the fire department equipment.
Participating in the inspection were Village Trustees
Henry Iarocci, Tim Cassidy, David Merrick and
Mike Mutti, who were accompanied also by State
Assemblywoman Amy Paulin, County Legislator Jim
Maisano and Town Supervisor Joseph Solimine.
Chief Glover presented a Unit Citation for Unit 2213’s efforts in
providing assistance to and raising funds for families and victims of
9/11. Chief Glover also presented the following awards: To Captain Rich
Carfora, Fireman of the Year Award for being the top volunteer responder
to fire calls in the Village of Pelham; To Rick Striano, Chief’s
Award for his efforts in recruiting more than 15 new volunteers to the
department; To Deputy Chief Ron Giustino, the Administrative Award for
his assistance in coordinating training for the volunteer companies.
